Welcome to the Mapua School PTA blog for 2012!

The first meeting for the PTA will be held on Tuesday the 7th February, 7.30pm in the staffroom. All are welcome to attend we are always happy for new faces to join us. If you would like any further information please contact Jackie jjflhall@xtra.co.nz.
Usually meetings are the first Tuesday of the month during term time. Joining the PTA is a great way to meet people and be involved in the school community. You don't need to commit huge amounts of time, but if you wish to be involved with specific projects the PTA undertakes that's always welcome too.

How to cut a Lemon - An evening with Chris Fortune

We had a fantastic night Third Annual Garden Evening – A Great Success

Many thanks to everyone who helped create a fantastic evening. Chris Fortune inspired, challenged and taught us -how to cut a Lemon and many other useful tips. Guests were treated to delicious nibbles and desserts made by talented volunteers from our school community. Silent Auction items tempted many with individuals vying for “top dollar position”. Goodie pots were loaded with NZ Gardener, NZ House & Garden magazines, ciders from Redwood Cellars as well as coffee cards from the Jester House Cafe. The church looked beautiful decorated with plants, flowers and the specialist stalls from Mapua Trading, Vibrant Earth, Tasman Roses, Mapua PTA and Baku. Over $6500 was raised to support our school’s library, literacy programmes and technology requirements.

The Mapua PTA's next major fundraiser will be our annual garden evening. This year we will be holding this event on Monday15th November, @ the Mapua Church - doors open at 6.30pm. Once again we'll be giving away some fantstic goodies in the goodie bags and will have some fantastic items in our silent auction. We'll let you know who our guest speaker is as soon as he is confirmed. If you'd like furthe information please contact Jackie Hall 5402770.

Mapua School Tea Towels For Sale

Gorgeous Mapua School Tea Towels are now available - $10 each or $18 for 2. These will make fantastic posting presents and a great keepsake for the budding artists.

Available for sale after school. Alternatively, you may include payment with order, noting either Junior

or Senior towel(s) in an envelope marked PTA order and send to the office.

This is a fundraiser organised by the Mapua School PTA.

The next Mapua School PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday 3rd August @ 7.30pm.

All Whites Signed Football Auction Extended

The All Whites signed football auction at The Tap has been extended and bidding will continue until Friday 25th June 5pm.

We have been lucky enough to be donated a football which is signed by the 2010 New Zealand World Cup Football Team - The All Whites! We are auctioning it by way of a silent auction. The ball is on display at The Tap in Mapua....place your bids there. Bidding closes at 5pm Sunday 20th June 2010.
If you would like to bid but are unable to make The Tap, please email your best bid $ to Jackie Hall at jjflhall@xtra.co.nz, before 1pm Sunday 20th June.
All proceeds will be used to purchase sports equipment for the school.

No July PTA Meeting

The PTA will not be holding a July meeting as that falls in the school holidays.
Next meeting will be the 1st Tuesday in August which is the 3rd August.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast Success

Thank you to all who attended the Pink Ribbon Breakfast, we raised $510.00 which we have donated to the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
A yummy breakfast was shared by all, and well done to those 1/2 dozen lads that turned up too.
A great way to start the day.........and watch this space......due to the great success of this breakfast we're all keen to do another breakfast later in the year.
Thanks to all the helpers and of course the businesses who donated goods; New World Motueka, Raewood Fresh, Mitre 10 Mega.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast May 28th

Mapua School PTA are hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast at the school Friday May 28th from 7.30 - 9.30am.
Invites have gone out to the school staff, parents and the wider Mapua community. All proceeds will be donated to the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. Breakfasts are $5.
We will also have some NZBCF goodies to sell, please support this great charity that effects so many wonderful women.

PTA AGM Update

Thanks for all those who attended last night's AGM......and thanks to the staff for providing the refreshments!

We had a number of new faces attend the meeting, so are excited about the year ahead.

Elected Officers last night as below:
President: Lisa Dunn
Vice President: Jackie Hall
Secretary: Honor Stephenson
Treasurer: Belinda Barden
MAGG Co-ordinator: Sandi Bloss

Big thanks to Lorraine Langridge for all her work as the treasurer for the last 4 years.......she is moving her skills to the Moueka High School PTA so lucky them!
Also thanks to Debbi Bamfield for all her work in setting up the MAGG - meet and greet group (very American!), where new families get a folder of information to help them in the settle in, and facilitates the welcome new families morning tea held each term.

Today we posted the buttons collected for Moriah School in Wellington, a grand total of 936, so thanks to all those people who took the time to help this school. They are collecting 1.5million buttons to represent the children who died in the Holocaust. For more information www.schoolground.co.nz/moriah

The back field project is kicking into action. If you have any ideas, skills etc please contact either Mary Duncan or Justine Millar directly.

Our next PTA meeting will be the first Tuesday in May, which is the 4th and starts at 7.30pm, all welcome.

PTA AGM & BOT Elections

Just a reminder that the PTA will be holding the AGM this Tuesday 20th April at 7pm in the staffroom.
All welcome and don't fear if you turn up it doesn't mean you'll made to go home with a job!!
But on saying that........there are a few key positions that the current holders would be happy to pass on to some new keen beans...any queries see either Lisa Dunn or Jackie Hall before Tuesday's meeting.

Please also think about the Board of Trustee Elections. Nominations are currently being invited for our parent BOT representatives - applications close this Friday 23rd April. You may nominate yourself if you are a parent/caregiver of children currently enrolled at Mapua School, or alternatively you can be nominated by a current parent/caregiver. Talk to any of the current board members if you require any further information.

Easter Fair big thanks to all the Volunteers

A big thanks to all the school families & teaching staff that helped out before and during this year's Mapua Easter Fair - it just keeps getting bigger and better!!!

The weather was perfect - the end of day light savings meant the crowds arrived early - so a great day all round.

The amount of money raised is still being tallied, but early indications are MORE than last year.......the school and the playcentre will beable to put the money towards some great projects to benefit these Mapua children.

Huge credit goes to Angela Fon who co-ordinated the whole event - well done Angela.

The Mapua School PTA will be holding the AGM Tuesday 30 March 2010, 7.00pm at the school staffroom. All welcome!
We have a number of retiring office holders and would like people to consider their availability......Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and MAGG Class Liaison. Please contact Jackie Hall jjflhall@xtra.co.nz or 5402770 if you are interested. Our current chair Lisa is happy to continue her role if an interested person would like support and be the vice chair for the remainder of the year.

The Ruby Bay By-pass Open Day went well, with approx 2000 people attending. The weather was fantastic and we thank all the volunteers that helped before and during the day.

The Mapua Easter Fair is being held at the Mapua Domain on Easter Sunday 4th April 2010. We have 86 parents volunteering their time on the day and many businesses donating goods for the raffle wheel. If we ahven't heard from you yet, but you would like to assist please contact Jackie Hall. All proceeds are donated to Mapua School and Mapua Playcentre.

This blog is a work in progress!

The first major fundraising event for the PTA is well underway...we are well down the path of organising the Ruby Bay Bypass Open Day.
Only a couple more sleeps til the big day.....Saturday 20th February!
We have had a great response from the Mapua school community for both volunteers on the day and volunteers to provide baking which will be sold on the day.
A total of 52 families/teachers are helping out on the day....lets hope for a great day had by all.
I look forward to updating the blog after the event.
